Back to Toybox Studios

On Friday the 15th of May we had the joy of going back to Toybox studios. The last time we were there was back when we recorded 'Falling for Orpheus', which was when we first fell in love with the studio.

It was great to be able to work with Stef Hambrook as our producer again – as well as providing lots of coffee to fuel Anja's caffeine addiction, he just ‘gets’ our sound, which is so important to us and makes the world of a difference.

We spent a long ten hours in Toybox, but once we had started we just couldn't seem to stop! It’s always so fun recording new material and seeing something that started out as just a small idea growing in front of us. It’s also exciting to wait and see what everyone will think!
It turned out to be a wonderfully efficient day, and we returned home with more than we could originally have hoped for – always a definite bonus.

Although we won’t say too much about our new recorded material yet, keep an eye out on our social media sites and website for more updates!

Month of May

Seeing as we have been working on a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ material this month, here’s an update on what we've been (and will be) up to!

We kicked off the month with a wonderful gig in the Colston Hall Foyer. It was a pleasure to be back, and we were so delighted with the amount of support – it really does mean a lot.

Last week we took a trip to Devon with film makers Scott Quinn and Corry Raymond to create a new music video. Director and editor Scott has been working his magic on the footage and we can’t wait to show everyone!

What we've been spending most of our time on is preparing to go into the studio tomorrow. We've been recording a range of demos for a while now, trying to shortlist which new track we all feel is the right one.

All of us are so excited to record again, and those pre-studio butterflies are starting to settle in! It’s going to be so exciting to be able to share something new with you, so keep a look out on our website for information and updates.

At the end of the month on the 30th, we will be playing at the Old Theatre Royal for the Bath Fringe Festival. Playing alongside us will be Cindy Stratton and Marius Frank with special guest Ellie Frank. The Old Theatre Royal is a beautiful venue and we can’t wait to play there! Tickets are available direct from the Fringe Festival website.

All in all it’s an exciting month, and further updates on everything mentioned will be available from our website and social media sites.

Busy Bees

It’s been another busy week for us, but we've been loving every moment (sleep included).

Recording at Toybox Studios

We kicked off the week preparing to go into Toybox Studios to record our song about Eurydice falling to the Underworld. We recorded the song over Tuesday and Wednesday. This was our third time in a recording studio over the last year, and we realised that we have become a lot faster and more efficient since the first time. We’re really happy with the results, especially since we have all pushed ourselves to take new directions we weren't used to. Just wait 'til you hear some of the effects on Sally’s guitar she would never have dreamed of using in the past!

We will be back in the Studio in November to help with the final mix.

Performing at The Lantern Society, London

Thursday we had a great day out in London! So maybe half of the day was spent driving and stuck in London traffic, but it was all worth it in the end. Despite the traffic, we managed to have some time to explore the Museum of London before heading off to a meeting. To finish off the day, we went off (walked, sensibly) to The Lantern Society at The Betsey Trotwood to play a few songs. The crowd were fantastic, so polite and respectful. We got to see some great acts too, including the lovely Zoë Wren with whom we are looking forward to working with soon.

The Honeyfire at The Queenshilling

Our week ended late last night at The Queenshilling in Bristol for a women-only night supporting IDestroy which was a complete contrast to the night before but still fun!

Back to J&J, and Visiting the Underworld

We are back from an extra day of recording at J&J studios, though we wish it was longer – we’re not quite ready to say goodbye to that lovely studio yet.

We had an amazing day adding the missing pieces to our album and we could not be happier with the results. All of us are so excited to share the finished product with you all; our new material is unlike anything we have previously released.

It’s been fun for us to giggle at each other and our ‘misheard lyrics’: “The warthog has risen above the kite that holds this world to leather(?!)”, which has helped to release stress from some hard-working sessions.

Speaking of what we've been up to this week, we are almost ready to go into Toybox Studio next week to record our song about Eurydice and the Underworld. It has been (and will continue to be) a very interesting project, which has been different to any other projects we have worked on in the past. The founder of the project, Richard Williams, wrote the original chords, which he then gave us to complete the song.

We have enjoyed writing lyrics and melodies to fit such a fascinating myth, and creating a song from another musician’s original music has turned out to be a large responsibility, which we are honoured to have been trusted with.

The rest of this week we will be finalising the song, and we will update you all after the recording.

Quick reminder about our acoustic set in the basement of The Louisiana this Friday for THE FLUX. Tickets will be £5 on the door. Doors 7.30pm, music from 8.30pm. More details here.

Post-Summer Excitement

It looks like the summer is over, but things are not all bad! We are back from our holidays, fully motivated and re-charged.

We’re getting busy preparing for some exciting things to come these next few months. Regular blog posts are included – so keep your eyes peeled!

We are adding the finishing touches to our debut album ‘The Honeyfire’, which is to be released on the 11th December. A launch event is being held at The Louisiana in Bristol on that night. We are struggling to contain our excitement! Tickets and pre-orders of the album are available on our Bandcamp page.

In other news, we’re currently working on a musical project involving Greek mythology. We’re having fun writing and getting ready to record next month. More details to come soon!

Don't forget our next show is an acoustic set in the basement of The Louisiana performing with Ellie Makes Music and Demi Louise Music on Friday 12th September. Entry is £5 on the door. More details here.
